Château Saint Martin and Spa

Situated in Vence, near the charming medieval village of Saint Paul de Vence, the Château Saint Martin & Spa is part of the Oetker Collection, the same hotel group as the magnificent Hotel du-Cap-Eden-Roc, and abides by the same principles of understated luxury and excellence in service. The hotel is also a member of the highly respected Relais & Chateaux international hotel guide.

While I was working at event management company JG Events, I was involved with the organisation of a winter wedding at the Château Saint Martin & Spa back in December 2008 for a lovely young Russian couple who hired the hotel for exclusive use over a long weekend. The venue was absolutely perfect for a festive season wedding with its cosy log fires and warm comfortable furnishings.

The Chateau Saint Martin is in fact equally as fabulous at any time of the year, offering traditional Provencal architecture, amazing views over the French Riviera coast, luscious gardens for wedding ceremonies, superb terraces for outside dining as well as versatile indoor function spaces. The Château Saint Martin & Spa even has its very own chapel , an idyllic place for an intimate wedding blessing .

Offering a total of 51 rooms, the Chateau Saint Martin has 39 junior suites and 6 private villas located in the hotel’s grounds .

If great food and wine is high on your list of priorities, then you will definitely not be disappointed with the Château Saint Martin. Run by head chef  Yannick Franque, protégé of the celebrated chef Alain Ducasse, the Château Saint Martin’s gastronomic restaurant has been awarded 2 Michelin Stars.  The hotel’s head Sommelier Jean-Christophe Rault always picks out the perfect wines for each menu and offers wine tasting in the hotel’s attractive Cave à Vine.

The Château Saint Martin is also a fantastic wedding venue for couples who would like to experience the ultimate in relaxation and wellbeing in calm surroundings. The hotel’s La Prairie Spa offers revolutionary health and beauty treatments in a truly luxurious setting. The Chateau Saint Martin’s heated outdoor swimming pool is set amongst olive groves and beautiful Provencal gardens.

The Château Saint Martin & Spa and its 51 rooms and suites can only be hired for exclusive use for weddings at certain times of the year; from the beginning of February to the end of May and again from the end of September to mid November. This is because the hotel’s regular individual clientele is privileged during the high season months of June to August and the venue closes annually from November/December to January/February. Rates are charged on a per day basis, with a minimum stay policy of 2 nights. If you do not wish to hire the entire hotel for your wedding, it is possible to organise a dinner either in the Rôtisserie; a large dining room with a capacity of 110 people seated or the Salle Matisse; a private salon with its own terrace perfect for small groups of up to 45 people seated. Hiring the venue for exclusive use is the only solution if you would like to have a dance party after dinner with either a DJ or live music, so not as to disturb the other guests staying in the hotel.

Château Eza

Château Eza is a fabulously romantic boutique hotel perched 400 metres up on the clifftop village of Eze, located on the French Riviera between Nice and Monaco. The medieval village of Eze is renowned for having the most incredible view on the entire Cote d’Azur; a 360° panoramic sea view of the Mediterranean coast as far as the Esterel mountains to the west and Italy to the east. The Château Eza is a wonderful wedding venue if you are looking for a quiet, intimate venue for a low key wedding in a mind-blowingly attractive setting.

The Château Eza is a 5 star boutique hotel with 10 rooms and suites sleeping up to 20 people. Room prices go from approximately 230 euros per night up to 1200 euros per night depending on the season and the category of room (according to the 2010 rack rate). If you are interested in privatising the entire venue and booking all of the 10 rooms available, the hotel will most probably be open to negotiating a special discount off the rack rate. All rooms are very attractive, have all the mod cons and are packed full of charm.

The venue has outside as well as inside dining space. The hotel’s panoramic view restaurant has a maximum seated capacity of 50 using rectangular tables and 70 for a standing cocktail reception.

The Château Eza’s terrace can hold a maximum of 120 people standing and 60 for seated dinners. The main terrace is also commonly used for wedding ceremonies as the hotel does not have a large garden for this purpose.

For small groups, the Château Eza’s private lounge known as the Salon Royal and its terrace can privatised for intimate dinner for up to 20 people.

The Château Eza possesses a Michelin star for the high standard of their cuisine. This prestigious recognition of quality comes with quite a hefty price tag, with set dinner menus going from 105 Euros to 140 Euros per head excluding beverages and wedding cake. The venue also offers canapés served with champagne and an open bar from 62 Euros and upwards per head. For a casual day-time reception, lunch menus are priced at between 45 and 70 Euros per head excluding beverages and wedding cake. The Château Eza  offers a special wedding package which includes 1 hours full open bar with champagne, alcohol, soft drinks and canapés (excluding luxury liquors), a 3 course seated dinner (starter, main and wedding cake), ½ bottle of wine per person, 1/2 bottle mineral water per person and coffee.  The wedding package is priced at 10,000 Euros based on a group of 40 people. For groups of under 40 people, the price does not decrease; 10, 000 Euros is the minimum charge. For groups of over 40 people, the price increases accordingly. N.b. all prices are according to 2010 rates.

The venue also has a partnership with a fantastic private beach on the Eze-sur-Mer shore, a few minutes decent by car from the hotel. Anjuna Bay would a fantastic place for a rehearsal dinner the night before or brunch the day after your wedding reception at the Château Eza.

Bastide Saint Antoine

Located in the heart of the Grasse countryside, the Bastide Saint Antoine is the ideal wedding venue for all you foodies out there. In 1996, the Bastide Saint Antoine was bought by celebrated French chef Jacques Chibois and only one year after its opening, the hotel’s restaurant was awarded two Michelin stars. The establishment has recently just been awarded a 5th star in reconnaissance of its superb facilities and quality of service and is part of the ‘Relais & Chateaux‘ group. The venue can also be found in the ‘Grand Tables du Monde‘ gastronomic food guide.

The Bastide Saint Antoine dates back to the 18th century and is packed full of Provencal charm. The 16 bedrooms and suits are decorated in a chic modern style and the hotel can accomodate up to 32 guests. The venue’s gardens are a wonderful place to start a wedding reception with a welcome cocktail moving onto the 120 people capacity terrace for a seated dinner.

The restaurant can also be used as an inside space for seated dinners and can fit 120 people maximum spread over two different rooms. For groups of above 120 people, the Salon Jasmin function room can fit up to 180 people. The Salon Jasmin is also the area in the hotel best suited for live entertainment and discos.

The venue offers one of two different pricing options for wedding hire. Either couples can rent the entire hotel for a minimum stay of 2 nights with full exclusive use of all the hotel’s facilities, or alternatively the Salon Jasmin function room can be rented on a per night basis for a dinner and dance party. In the second instance, couples are required to take a minimum of 3 bedrooms for 2 nights.

The chefs at the Bastide Saint Antoine can put together fabulously tantalising menus priced at approximately 180 euros for 6 courses excluding alcohol and beverages. Drinks and canapé packages are also offered and special children’s menus can be arranged.

Due to sound regulations, music must strictly end by 02.00 but if you want to continue the party without music, this is negotiable and payable at a supplementary hourly rate of approximately 325 euros per hour.

In terms of additional services, the venue can arrange babysitting, can install a dance floor upon request for 763 euros and will allow guests to bring their own Champagne (a ‘bouchon’ fee does however apply).

Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat

Grand Hotel du Cap FerratSince its construction in 1908, the Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat has welcomed aristocrats, politicians, celebrities, acclaimed artists and high net worth individuals from around the world. Today, the Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat is one of the most stunning if not the most stunning hotels in France. What makes the Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat so special is that it is just so perfect. Since mass renovations last year, this 5 star hotel has been given a new lease of life and entered into a new league of luxury. It is no coincidence that the venue has won many tourism awards such as the Conde Nast Traveller Gold List 2009 for the best location in Europe, and the National Geographic 2008 award for the best swimming pool in the world as well as the first prize for service in Europe awarded by Travel and Leisure magazine in 2006.

The Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat is located on the tip of the highly exclusive Saint Jean-Cap-Ferrat peninsular between Nice and Monaco in an extremely private, secluded area. The hotel’s main building, a pristine white ‘Belle Epoque’ style mansion house is set in luscious Provenal gardens and enjoys a magnificent uninterrupted sea view. One of the main renovation projects was the construction of several luxury suites with private swimming pools in an annex building a few metres away from the main building.

The hotel’s Michelin star restaurant Le Cap is run by head chef Didier Aniès and offers ’haute gastronomie’ using the very best local ingredients. The restaurant opens out onto a huge terrace spread over two levels, an ideal place for a cocktail reception. The hotel’s lobby area with its lounge and huge bay windows is often used for seated dinners at weddings as the stunning white décor lends itself perfectly to such an occassion. An equally spectacular space suitable for events is the Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat’s ’Club Dauphin‘ located at the sea-shore a few minutes walk from the main hotel. The ‘Club Dauphin’ is a 300 m² restaurant located side by side with the hotel’s amazing infinity pool which melts into the Mediterranean sea. The ‘Club Dauphin’ is accessible via an air-conditioned mini railway or by foot down a small path and has a seated capacity of 120 and a standing capacity of 200 for weddings and events.

For your wedding ceremony, the  Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat has a stunning walk way going from the main building through the gardens towards the ‘Club Dauphin’ which is ideal for a bridal procession. A ceremony could take place in the hotel’s gardens or equally on the terrace overlooking the sea.

The Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat has a total of 49 bedrooms and 24 suites of which 8 have private swimming pools with accommodation for over 150 people. The hotel has a magnificent spa with 5 open air treatment zones.

I would recommend the Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat for large budget weddings only as the venue is known for being the most expensive in France. Just to give you an idea, in high-season rooms go from 560 Euros for the lowest category up to 4200 Euros for a deluxe suite per night. I imagine that the hotel does however negotiate special rates if you wish to hire the entire hotel for exclusive use.

Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc

hotel du cap eden roc 7This five star luxury establishment is for me, the wedding venue on the Cote d’Azur ‘par excellence’. The Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc is exclusive yet has a relaxed vibe, is luxurious yet homely and friendly without being intrusive. The exclusive nature of the venue comes from both the high price tag and the fact that the venue only accepts weddings at certain times of the year. The Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc does not allow weddings during the months of July and August due to the fact that the Hotel prioritizes its regular clientele many of whom return year after year. The establishment prefers not to put any area of the hotel out of bounds so as not to compromise the enjoyment of their individual guests during their vacation. The hotel closes annually between mid October and April for upkeep thus leaving only the months of April, May (excluding the Cannes Film Festival period – 10 days in mid May), June, September and the first part of October available for weddings. Weekend dates during these periods are scarce and are often reserved well in advance.

The majority of the couples who are lucky enough to get married at the Hotel du Cap Eden Roc do so as they have been coming to the establishment for years with their family on holiday, the venue has cherished childhood memories for them and is therefore an obvious choice for their own wedding in adult life.

The Hotel du Cap Eden Roc has several spaces well adapted for wedding celebrations and ceremonies. At the heart of the beautiful gardens is a romantic rose garden where a small, quiet ceremony could take place with your nearest and dearest. Alternatively for larger groups, the roof of the Eden Roc pavilion offers panoramic sea views over the Lerins Islands and the Cannes bay. Another option for ceremonies is the long, dramatic, tree-lined alley leading from the Hotel du the Eden Roc. The Eden Roc pavilion has a wonderful terrace running right the length of its various function spaces; the Eden Roc restaurant, a formal dining area with fabulous gastronomic cuisine, the Eden Roc Grill and Lounge Bar, a more relaxed environment perfect for dancing and cocktail receptions, and the Rotonde Piano bar and terrace, great for pre-dinner drinks.

For those wishing to dance on into the early hours of the morning (they sky is the limit thanks to the lack of neighbours), the hotel obliges that the whole Hotel and Eden Roc pavilion is hired for exclusive use due to the fact that many of the hotel’s bedrooms are located above the function rooms. However, if you do not mind finishing loud music at a reasonable hour not as to disturb other guests, an exclusive use fee is not always necessary.
